 Kiwanis Club of LaGrange sponsors
a number of youth initiatives, starting with our support of local
high school Key Clubs and continuing through our 2nd Grade
"Terrific Kids" program. We also sponsor the
Kiwanis Talent Showcase and the Kiwanis Art Show each year for
young people in grades 1-12 to showcase their talent and have an
opportunity to compete and win scholarships. Our own LaGrange
Kiwanis Foundation, a 501(c) 3 charitable foundation,
awards annual college scholarships to deserving area seniors, and
in 2005, we are teaming up with First Tee of Troup County
with our annual golf tournament to help teach kids in grades 3-12
life goals, discipline and sportsmanship through the wonderful
sport of golf. Proceeds from our 11th annual
tournament will go to both the 1st Tee and to LaGrange Kiwanis
Foundation's scholarship fund.
We are very proud
of our four local Key Clubs -at Troup High School,
Callaway High School, West
Georgia Christian Academy, and our most recently
chartered club at Lafayette Christian School!
Kiwanis Club of LaGrange annually awards
cash college scholarships
to area high school seniors, and one LaGrange College student. Awarded in memory of
LaGrange Kiwanian and former Notre Dame Dean Dr. Robert (Bob)
Gordon, and Kiwanis Club of LaGrange charter member Mr.
Edwin Gore, these scholarships are funded by the club's 501 (c)
(3) foundation, with the major benefactor to date being the annual
Kiwanis Club of LaGrange Golf Tournament. The club
also awards a Hugh O'Brien
conference scholarship to up to three local high school sophomores
each year.
